If you have bought sneakers or sports shoes made in China, there is a good chance they came from Fujian province, and very often from one city in particular: Jinjiang. Often called China's shoe capital, Jinjiang is one of the country's largest footwear production centers, and several well-known Chinese sportswear brands started out there. Here is what buyers should know about sourcing from the region.
Where is Jinjiang?
Jinjiang is a county-level city in Quanzhou, on the southeast coast of Fujian province, across the strait from Taiwan. It sits between the port cities of Xiamen and Fuzhou, which makes it convenient for export shipping.
Why is Jinjiang so important for footwear?
What makes Jinjiang special is not a single large factory, but the density of the whole supply chain in one area:
- Shoe factories of every size, from large brand suppliers to flexible workshops that take smaller orders
- Sole manufacturers producing EVA, rubber, PU and TPR soles, with a large library of existing molds
- Materials suppliers for mesh, knit, leather, synthetics, laces, insoles and adhesives

Tips for working with a Jinjiang supplier
- Be specific. Share photos, target price, size range and quantities up front. You will get faster, more accurate quotes.
- Ask about existing soles. Using a sole mold that already exists can save significant cost and time compared with a brand-new mold.
- Check real capability. Ask for production, warehouse and loading photos or a video call.
- Plan around holidays. Chinese New Year slows production for several weeks; place orders well before it.
- Start with samples. Approve fit and quality before bulk production.
Visiting Jinjiang
If you plan a sourcing trip, the nearest international airports are Quanzhou Jinjiang Airport and Xiamen Gaoqi Airport. Many buyers stay in Xiamen or Quanzhou and visit several suppliers in a few days. If you cannot travel, a live video walk-through of the factory is a good alternative.
